Final reflection

The project

Looking back at this project I can say that it was one of the most fun, but also the most difficult project I’ve had to do with a group. There were a lot of things that had to be taken care of and due to all the chaos sometimes it was hard to keep track of everything that needed to be finished and stuff. After all we did finish everything on time and even were one of the first teams who were finished at all.

The team

The team I had to work with was really fun and in my opinion we worked really well and hard to create an amazing final product. During the lessons and being with together all the time we learned a lout about each other and ourselfs. The communication became better and better over time and we discussed every idea so that all the team members could give their opinion about it. Because of the fact the we got to know each other better we knew exactly which task had to be done by each team member.

Yourself

Starting this project I choose to step out of my comfort zone and be the scrum leader, in the first weeks I didn’t really step into this role as everything kinda was discussed in a group setting. But after the lessons from Sarah I learned how to take initiative and lead.

I tried to implement that what I learned in those lessons into the project and that worked pretty well in my opinion, but I still got some help from Ruben. My main role during this project was being the hardware/software engineer, within this role I learned a lot of new skills and how I can do things better next time.

After all I learned a lot during this project and had a lot of fun!

The project

This project was the biggest project of the year, it is a full time project and we have no other subjects on the side. This project asked a lot of time and contribution from each team member. We sometimes had no overview of what was done or still had to be completed. However we did complete everything on time, we also knew well when we had to hand in something and who was going to do this. From the start we divided the roles within the team to ensure every member was doing something they were good at. This meant we could all focus on doing a particular job in order to have them done in time. Together we managed to create a full functioning end product.

The team

Our team worked well and we worked hard. We learned how to communicate best with each other and we could easily all agree on several ideas when it was discussed well. We divided all task to the person it would suit best, to ensure that the task would be done in the best possible way. We had a good work flow and spirit, we had a lot of fun amongst each other but we also could focus well when we needed too.

Yourself

Starting a week later in this project we directly discussed whether I would get a yellow card or not, as I missed the whole first week. When I first saw my group we discussed the ideas they had and what would be most feasible to use.

I have learned a lot of things and focussed on things I could personally succeed at. During the project I also worked on the blog with Rene, not all post are written by him, he made the headings, and we then both wrote about those headings.

I have also learned to present my own product more and dealing with the feedback we have then gotten.

A) Project

This was the most difficult and big project i have ever had to do. When a project is this big it is always difficult to keep track on what has to be done and what is being done. It is also difficult to please everybody and to keep everybody satisfied. I did enjoy the project as a whole. I liked that we had to make something that other users could use and that will actually be played. It is always nice to see a lot of different disciplines coming together to create something awesome.

B) Team

Our overall workflow together was positive. We all did what we had to do and knew each other strengths and weaknesses. Because of the long time being together you might get some irritations because you are always with each other, but that is normal. I think we all did our part and made something nice. I am proud of my team and of myself

C) Yourself

I think i have learned a lot in this project. Giving guidance and giving feedback mostly. Also retaining one style and building some things are some of the things i’ve learned. I’ve also learned to deal with disappointment, because everytime we had a demo i thought we deserved more. It is difficult to keep calm in such a situation but in the end we managed to make it all good.

Our project

Project FAT was the last and biggest project of our academic year. I really liked the project,  because it was together with a team that all had their individual skills. You can really good see that every group member could implement their skill where everybody could benefit from. Besides it was also a good learning experience, because you could learn from those skills and help each other.

We made a scavenger hunt for our project. We wanted that everyone who uses our installation learned about the historical objects of Enschede. We called it ‘Sneaky Finders’. In the scavenger hunt you will be directed across 5 locations in the city center. The old church, fire monument, Café Bolwerk, Bombardement and van Heekplein. We called it ‘Sneaky finders’, because together with our character ‘A thief’ you will enter a story that he tells where he wants to rob the safe. Our installation contains a safe with 5 dials due to the 5 locations we have. At each location you will get a short animation explanation that our character gives with a little backstory of the location. After this explanation you will get a question, after giving the correct answer you will get a number for the first dial. When you answered all the 5 questions you need to return to the safe and enter the code you received. We made an interactive installation combined with your mobile to discover Enschede in a fun and intuitive way (focused on 12+ target group).

Myself

My tasks

My main task was to provide the team with good looking animations containing the message that we wanted to achieve. I think I can be proud of what I made, the end result is better than I hoped for. Dennis and Ruben helped me out with their illustration for the animation. In total I made 7 animations: Logo animation, Introduction video and question video 1 till 5. All the videos combined make a great coherent product.

Learning goals  (dutch)

Improving my English grammar

During the project my primary task was animating. Next to animating, writing blogpost was also my task. This, because I wanted to improve my English grammar. I think that I succeeded in accomplishing this learning goal. That is, improving my thought of how to formulate this sentence instead of translating it directly from the Dutch language.

Letting go of ideas

Listening to others and letting go of my own ideas has always been a struggle for me. With my selfish mind I always think that my idea is the best idea. At those moments I am isolated from the group and I do not completely hear what others have to say. I found that very difficult, because I did get some comments about that in the past. I need to be more open to the ideas from others.

I started to implement this during the project. For instance, we had to draw an illustration of our stand/installation. I began to draw and I quickly realized that I preferred my own drawing over the other ones. But, after a chat with my group I realized that I isolated myself and didn’t look good at the drawings of my team members. I learned a lot from that moment.

Improve my animation (storytelling)

I can make animations, but I want to make my animations with a better story. Animating a cube from left to right is easy. Improve this with effects is also doable, but I need to give animations more of a story. I knew that I could ask team members for help. Together with Ruben I made a script. The script is what you will see on screen and sentences for the voice over.

Open towards other ideas

This makes a good bridge to ‘letting go of ideas’. When I stay to long with an idea, then I am less open to other ideas. Conscious and unconscious.

Summary

I had a lot of fun working at this project and with my team. We had a bit of a slow start, because we really were stuck in the concept phase. After we had a concept everything went well. I think we were one of the first teams with an actual working machine. I learned a lot from my team members, because everyone had their own skill.

The team

I really think we are a great varied team. Everybody followed his/her tasks. In the end, I am very proud at our installation and the team, everything came together nicely.

My team consists of:

Marco Engineer/Scrum master

Marco was our scrum master and mainly focused on our technical part of the installation.

Myself Animator

I was the animator of the team and I wrote most of the blogposts.

Dennis Illustrator

Dennis was our main illustrator and worked a lot on our concept.

Femke Promotion/writor

Femke was head of promotion and wrote together with me blogposts.

Sinan Coder

Sinan made the entire website, he is a really good coder.

Ruben Art director

Ruben worked as our art director. The looks, the coherent product and al the final decisions were made by Ruben.

We all worked on the installation, from laser cutting objects to painting the installation. We also came together at the lessons of Sarah as a team. We did get to know each other better and we could speak up if there was something wrong.

During the project we worked with ‘Trello’ for our scrum method. Every group member followed and did his/her tasks. Working with Trello worked very well and the planning went spot on.

To get new followers we created the event itself to make clear when, what time, and where the scavenger hunt will happen.

Currently we get new followers almost everyday. We still post content on facebook and Instagram such as small animations and content such as our created character.

We also shared the event on facebook and instagram to ensure people know all the details.

Image layer (reward)

Femke Zwart, Uncategorized

Part of the reward is having de-coded the safe, which means that you will receive a reward if you have done this and participated.

We also have a reward for the player who manages to do the scavenger hunt the fastest. However we didn’t think it was fair that only 1 person would go home with something. So we created an image layer and we will take a photo of each person who will open the safe, and then email it to them and post it on facebook and instagram.

The image below shows the layer and the type of picture we will take for the users.

Last Demo and Go/No-Go

Uncategorized

We had our last demo for Yvens and Margit. We showed our installation and our progress and got feedback. We were surprised about the feedback since we believed to have done more then we got graded for. We considered the feedback and did some extra’s to improve our overall grade

Marco and Ruben also held the Go/No-Go moment with Harry and Rene. They were pleasantly surprised and we got a GO. Monday we will finalize everything so that we can move on tuesday

The Project

This project was the biggest project of the year. We made an installation called: Sneaky Finders. The idea of our project is to do a scavenger hunt game throughout the city center of Enschede. During this scavenger hunt, there will be five spots where you have to answer some questions. When you answer one of the questions correctly, you receive a part of the code. If you answer every question faultless, you have five pieces of code. With this code, you can open the safe and get the reward.

Sneaky finders is an interactive way for all ages to learn about Enschede, it is mostly focused on users age 12+ . This scavenger hunt will be played on the users phone. On the website were you play the game, there is a map. Before you start the scavenger hunt, they will be given an instruction video. This video explains how to play. After the video the user receives the QR code for the website where you play the game.

Our Team

The team was very motivated to create a professional installation. We have made firm agreements about every ‘to do’ that we have to do. The tasks were fairly distributed this project. The teachers told us that we were running right on schedule. So that was motivated and give us more power to give the installation finishing touch. Around the project, we had some time to relax. We went to the city of Enschede for diner with the project group. This is very important to create a strong team spirit.

Myself

For this project, I was an allround designer. There were different tasks where I have helped. In the beginning of this project, I made some learning goals. One of them was to create some graphic illustrations. Most of this illustrations, I have created during this project. An other learning goal was to make some videos for the project. So as you know, we made animations for every question and there is no any video. Rene has create any animation for the questions. This was one of the learning goals of him. The last learning goal was zo create a professional concept. The idea for the scavenger hunt game come from Ruben. The whole style around the scavenger hunt game came from me. So I had a big input of the style of this scavenger hunt game.

Ethical and responsibility considerations

Femke Zwart, Uncategorized

As our target group is 12+ we need to consider that we do not shock them with the information given and ensure that the shown items are not always reality.

We created a 360º for one of the locations during the scavenger hunt, this 360 shows that location but then how it would look if it would be bombed right now. To show how it would’ve looked like when in it was bombed in the past. But this 360º is not really how it looked like when it was bombed in the war.

The other information given through out the scavenger hunt are based on facts we received from the eldest city guide in Enschede, and researched on the internet. Which means that these facts are based on the reality.

The children will be educated with these facts and not be told anything that isn’t real besides the 360º

Other responsibility considerations are our animation videos, the animations and illustrations are created by Rene and Dennis which mean that we can just use them and put them on youtube as they are created by ourselves.

Some images we have used are from the internet, this means they have copyright however we use them for educational purposes and do not have any commercial benefit from it therefore we can use these images.

We have used music in some animations , they have copyright however we use them for educational purposes and do not have any commercial benefit from it therefore we can use the music.

Our logo is also our own, it was created by Dennis which mean we can use it any where for any purpose.

The font is Clarendon Condensed Bold we are also using this under “educational purposes”. The design colors are in no way related to peaky blinders itself and do not infringe copyright there.

We used Peaky Blinders as a thematic point and did not intend any infringement. Moreover we did not copy 1 on 1 and use our images and style as educational purposes without earning any money and generating income.

Testing Geolocations in the citycenter

Uncategorized

We are approaching the end of the project. The site, animations and the safe are almost done! Before we want to publish our scavanger hunt to the public we wanted to test our geolocations.

We started at Koelink where our stand will be placed. Sinan enabled a dialogue of notifications, because then we could see how far away we were from the actual place.

Sinan fine tuned the locations after the test, and we are very confident that our scavanger hunt will work very well.

Below this text you can see some screen shots of how close we actually were from the Bolwerk point.
